People walk the Via Francigena for a variety of personal and cultural reasons, drawn by the opportunity for adventure, self-discovery, and a deep connection with history. This ancient route, stretching from Canterbury to Rome, offers a unique chance to slow down and immerse in diverse landscapes, from rolling countryside to historic towns and breathtaking mountain passes.
The basic route will include English section (Canterbury to Dover), the French portion through Reims and Besançon, the Swiss Alps crossing at the Great St. Bernard Pass, and the scenic Italian stretch through Tuscany and Lazio before reaching Rome. I have included an over view map for perspective. Remember, you can do the route in sections. Not everybody plans to do it all in one go!!
