Travel Log – Day 2
After a hectic morning, I departed from Dover on the 9:45 AM P&O ferry to Calais. The crossing was smooth, and I arrived in France ready to explore.
Calais, a major ferry port, serves as a crucial link between the UK and France. Though primarily industrial and transit-oriented, it offers glimpses of historical architecture and a touch of coastal charm. Still, it felt more like a gateway than a destination.
From there, I made my way to Wissant—the true highlight of the day. Nestled between Cap Blanc-Nez and Cap Gris-Nez along the Opal Coast, this small village is a hidden gem. Its wide sandy beach, traditional stone houses, and steady coastal winds make it a favorite for windsurfers and kiteboarders. But what struck me most was the atmosphere: quiet, picturesque, and unmistakably French. There were no tourist crowds—just natural beauty and a relaxed, authentic vibe.
Wissant left a lasting impression. It’s the kind of place you don’t just visit—you remember.
